Little Dudes Learning Center opened in 1961 when Mrs. Ellen Smith recognized the need for childcare in South Austin. Although it was still primarily undeveloped, South Austin was growing, and the IRS had just opened their Austin facility. Little Dudes Learning Center was the first childcare center to open in Austin, south of the river. Following the opening of the first center on Sandra Street, an after school care and summer camp was opened at the Crow Ln. campus, in 1972. An additional center opened on Maufrais Ln. in 1980. In 2013 the Maufrais facility was leased by Head Start, and the children and staff at the Maufrais location were relocated just up the street to the childcare facility at the Woodway Village Apartments in Southeast Austin.
Providing high quality early childhood education has always been our priority. Little Dudes Learning Centers have been recognized as Texas Rising Star Four-Star Centers, a statewide quality certification program. We also participate in the Texas School Ready! program, a Pre-K school readiness certification developed by the University of Texas. We are proud of our long history as a quality certified learning center in Austin.
